On Sunday, February 20, 2022, Lakeside JROTC will participate in the annual Bataan Death March. The memorial march is conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II, sacrificing their freedom, health, and, in many cases, their very lives.
This year, we will complete the 14-mile march at Stone Mountain Memorial Park Stone Mountain, GA. The cadets will be presented a medal and extra credit for completing this event.
We will meet up at Stone Mountain SDA Church 1350 Silver Hill Rd. Stone Mountain, GA 30087 at 7:30 will start the march from this location at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, February 20, 2021, so please ensure your cadet arrives on time. We should return by 2:00 p.m. We will have each cadet update the person responsible for picking them up from the school when we begin our return the starting point. It is very important that someone is here to pick them up upon our return to the school.
Cadets will wear comfortable hiking attire. Because of the distance of the hike (14 miles), proper footwear is essential. We will provide physical workouts that the cadets can do on their time in preparation for this event. Cadets must participate in these workouts. Those who chose not to participate or are unable to complete them may be excluded from this event due to safety concerns. Following the trip, each student will share with the class their experience, discussing the highlights of the trip, what they learned, and how it’s applicable to them.
Each cadet will be required to turn in a permission slip signed by their parents/guardians. The completed permission slip must be turned in by February 17, 2022.
There is no fee for this trip. Lunch and water will be provided. Cadets should bring light snacks and water bottles. Students are expected to extend full cooperation regarding dress requirements, safety, conduct and courtesy.
