On Sunday, November 17, 2024 Lakeside AFJROTC will participate in the annual Bataan Death March. The memorial march is conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II, sacrificing their freedom, health, and, in many cases, their very lives. This semester, we will complete the 7-mile march at Stone Mountain Memorial Park Stone Mountain, GA. The cadets will be presented an ribbon and community service hours for completing this event.
We will meet up at Stone Mountain SDA Church 1350 Silver Hill Rd. Stone Mountain, GA 30087 at 9:00am. The march will start from this location at 9:30 a.m., so please ensure your cadet arrives on time. We should return by 12:00 p.m. We will have each cadet update the person responsible for picking them up when we begin our return the starting point. It is very important that someone is there to pick them up upon our return to the church.
Cadets will wear AFJROTC PT gear. Because of the distance of the hike (7 miles), proper footwear is essential. We will provide physical workouts that the cadets will do during our PT and on their time in preparation for this event. Cadets must participate in these workouts. Those who chose not to participate or are unable to complete them may be excluded from this event due to safety concerns. Following the trip, each student will share with the class their experience, discussing the highlights of the trip, what they learned, and how it’s applicable to them.
